Following Your Passion vs. Pursuing Your Career

Academic and professional competition is at an all-time high in today's world. Everyone wants to do their best, to be successful, and to have a good financial foundation in order to live a stress-free life. People frequently choose their professional fields by sacrificing their dreams, happiness, and passion. Undeniably, everyone wants to earn a steady income and live a life that meets all of their financial and emotional needs. However, we often lose sight of our "inner calling" while pursuing the right course of study and landing the right job. A person can become so preoccupied with the monetary aspects of life that he or she loses sight of their passion.

Passion? What exactly is passion? Is everyone enthusiastic about what they are pursuing? When is a person truly passionate? While working? And how can we strive to incorporate passion into our lives if we are not passionate about what we do? These are the first few thoughts that come to mind when we consider the word "passion."

Job vs. Career:

One might believe that Career and Job are synonymous terms. However, these terms are not interchangeable. A career entails setting long-term goals in order to achieve the greater good you desire or anticipate for your life, whereas a job entails simply going to work to earn a paycheck. A career is where you plan every step toward achieving the long-term goals you've set for yourself, whereas a job does not.

The primary distinction between a career and a job is one's attitude. A job is typically taken with the intent of earning money. Because the only expectation is a pay check, one focuses solely on getting the work done without being truly passionate about it, whereas a career is a complete journey of hard work, plans, and efforts. It's a chain that leads to the top of the success ladder. To achieve that long-term and meaningful goal, one does more than expected and learns more than is required while fulfilling daily routines. Setting goals and acquiring valuable skills, building a professional network, gaining experience, and continuing in our pursuits of earning promotion and raises are all benefits of a career.

Wise people say that money isn't everything, but a person would rather sit in a sedan than a bus. Money cannot truly buy happiness. However, in today's society, money is required to obtain the things one desires. Only a few people get to do what they love and be completely satisfied. As a result, while having a career or a job that pays well is important, the real key to happiness is doing what one enjoys.

Chasing a dream and rising to do what one loves is difficult and often fraught with uncertainty because the career may or may not take off, but it's definitely worth a shot. Life is about how satisfied one is at the end of the day, not how much money one has.

Following your passion is more important than chasing money alone for the following reasons.

INSPIRATION TO WORK HARD
When a person chooses to do something he or she enjoys, he or she is always motivated and passionate to do it even better than expected. They are not concerned about the late hours or the negative outcomes. They simply keep giving their all without feeling compelled to do so.

TO BE CREATIVE
When a person is passionate about something, he or she always has ideas and plans to make it better and more efficient. One cannot be creative if one continues to work in a job that does not allow for the exploration and manifestation of ideas.

BEING ENTHUSIASTIC
When a person considers his or her job and it does not make them happy, they are not passionate about it. Someone who is passionate about it will work on Sundays as well because their happiness is tied to their work.

OBSTACLE
When a person is truly committed to the work they are doing, no obstacle can prevent them from achieving their goals and dreams.

SELECT A JOB FOR THE RIGHT CAUSES
A person works for one-third of his life. It is critical to choose a job that will not drain you and leave you unhappy at the end of the day. One should not spend one-third of their life doing something they dislike just to make money. After all, there is only one life, and it should be lived rather than just survived.

Finally, choose your happiness and find a career or job that allows you to pursue it. Be enthusiastic about any work you wish to undertake. "Nothing is as important as passion," Jon Bon Jovi once said. Be passionate about whatever you want to do with your life."
