How To Find Meaning in Life: 9 Simple Ways

Do you ever wonder why you came here? You know, like how to find your life's meaning or purpose? Why do you exist on this planet?
These are probably the most subtle, yet profound, questions people ask themselves every day, and I'm sure there are as many different answers as there are people asking them.
This is why, rather than asking yourself why you are here and what you should be doing, let us begin to make your experiences the answers to your questions and restore some meaning and oomph to your life.

1. Learn the Happiness Lesson

You've probably heard it before: happiness is a choice. Yes, and fortunately, anyone can practice it because the truth is that you can actually override what you were originally taught, which is to play along with the rest of the world and become upset or unhappy because things are not perfect.
Okay, I'm not saying you should always have a delusory smile on your face (people will think you're crazy), but rather stay calm and happy while dealing with situations that require your attention.

2. Follow Your Talents and Gifts

Discovering your gifts and talents will give your life meaning and may lead to the discovery of your purpose. Here are some questions to help you figure out what underlying gifts and talents you have:

What comes easily to you?
When do you feel the most alive?
So, what are you doing or experiencing?
In what ways do you enjoy assisting others?

3. Make Excellent Connections

Spend time with those who enrich your life and lift you up. This could be anyone, from friends to coworkers.
Spend less time with people who drain your energy or are constantly negative. According to Jim Rohn,

4. Setting Objectives

If you want to have meaning in your life, you must have a plan. You don't have to sit down for five hours every Monday to set goals for the rest of the week that you will certainly not complete anyway—please don't do this to yourself!
However, set goals and a plan to achieve them. It shouldn't be something you dread doing, but rather have an idea of achievements you'd like to see in your life and make a plan for working towards them by writing them down. Then, and most importantly, act.

5. Assist Others

Helping others makes you feel good, makes you feel worthy, and gives you a sense of purpose. Giving to others in the form of time, money, or assistance in any way you can be a sure way to give yourself meaning in life.
So, the question is, do you know of anyone you can assist this week?

6. Try Something Novel

Consider visiting a museum, having lunch at a luxurious hotel in your hometown, or pampering yourself at home for the day. You're probably so caught up in your routine that you don't think you have time for it.
Doing something different breaks the cycle of 'doing' life and allows you to experience an important break from the norm and realize you're missing out on some of life's most experiences. Believe me, you'll be grateful!

7. Stop watching television.

Seriously. I challenge you to go a week without watching television, especially if you find it difficult to do without the news. You will notice how this affects your life, and you may realize how addictive the box and all of the negativity it portrays truly are.
Do you want to bring meaning back into your life? Then turn off the television and do something meaningful with your time. Simple!

8. Make a decision to do something you've always wanted to do.

What is it that you always intend to do someday? So, guess what? My friend, your time has come because you're going to do it.

Step 1. Determine your 'thing.'

Step 2. Go ahead and do it.

If this seems like an impossible two-step process right now, start working towards it, saving, learning, or doing whatever it takes to make it happen. However, take the first step!

9. Discover Your Purpose

Finding your purpose in life is, in my opinion, one of the most liberating things you can do. This will provide you with all of the meaning you need in your life. It's what life is all about: discovering your purpose and carrying it out by living it.

Your purpose is what motivates you, what gets you out of bed in the morning, and what gives you energy. If you only do one thing with your life, make it find your purpose with all of your heart so you can reap the benefits of a meaningful life!
